National Young Writers’ Month – Day 4 – A Brief Update and an Introduction…

This is technically day five now. But allow me to explain why there isn’t a completed short story for you to stuff your eye sockets with – I simply didn’t have time today/yesterday to write.

I worked from 10am-6pm today, then headed to a very exciting VRDL bout and then capping my day off with a house party. Scheduling time for writing was not going to happen.

I guess this ties into a much larger reason of why I haven’t written much over the past four years. It wasn’t so much a lack of time, but it was making the time and the effort to sit down and jumble some words together. So now that I’ve set this goal to write everyday, I really want to achieve that by any means necessary. I promise that I’ll have more for you all to absorb tomorrow evening.

On Friday evening, a co-worker mentioned she would like to see a story involving Communist Robots. So I sat down and I started writing one after I’d posted the last story I wrote. Here’s what I have so far…

The Mar-X robots were created out of necessity. Capitalism had collapsed upon itself. Humans no longer wanted to or were required to work. Chaos ensued. War ravaged every land, regardless of what they stood for and whose side they were supposedly on.

The death toll for War was unable to be measured on account of the fact that Governments were overthrown by people who wanted the right to self-govern. And if no-one wants structure, they get anarchy.

The Mar-X robots were programmed for one thing, productivity. They were capable of independent thought, but constrained by a collective stream of consciousness. Their motto, “Productivity is progress” was just about everywhere in their country. Formerly known as the USSR, then re-branded as the Former Militant Nation State of Soviet Russia, was now known as Progress.

Now, I have a fair idea of where I actually want to go with it, but I am keen to see what you think I should do with it. Please keep in mind I have a very basic level of knowledge regarding political science and the foundations of communism – so if you want to throw hard objects at me, I ask that you do so gently. I will admit it reads primarily as sci-fi for this intro section, but I have more stuff to work into it that will shift it into the mashup category.

I have a stack of other ideas swimming around in my head for tomorrow’s more complete entry, but I don’t see any reason why the words above should go to waste. I plan on coming back to them, maybe threading parts of stories into various blog posts, or just gradually adding words and turning it into a complete story.

More tomorrow!
