So yes, my plan to write several hundred thousand entries about my trip didn’t quite play out as I had wanted it to. All I can say is that now that the road trip is all said and done, I will be spending some time shuffling through notes and pictures and putting together entries on each of the main cities/towns visited over the course of the trip.
“Why weren’t there updates?!” my limited readership (which may now be gone) cries to the heavens.
Well, one thing I noticed about Australia while on the road trip is the complete pants that is hostel/hotel/accommodation internet. One place asked $6 per hour for wireless internet. $6!
I like using the internet, sure, but I sure as shit can do without it at that sort of rate. That wireless internet had better have improved my chances with the opposite sex tenfold, helped me lose 10kg and done my laundry before I’d consider paying $6 an hour.
What is worse is the amount of people I actually saw paying for internet use then wasting a lot of it on Facebook. Something about that really made me wonder what this world is coming to.
There was another place that said I could use the internet for free, but I would have to let a homeless person touch me inappropriately (yes, even my naughty places, you dirty pervs) the entire time I was using it.
By the bye, I received my uni results for this semester. Two A’s, one high B and a D. That spells BAAD, to suggest some sort of overemphasized use of the ‘A’ making me sound super cool or that I was doing a particularly bad job of putting my stamp on a very famous George Thorogood song.
It also spells A DAB, to suggest that my uni results were just a little bit of something.
And finally, BA DA…
Bing!
The one poor mark I received I took on the chin, as that was my final exam that was completed less than a day after my penultimate exam. I remember sitting it and thinking, “Just write for a pass”. My brain was seriously cactus by that time.
I wish I could say that this trip was relaxing and refreshing, however it posed its very own series of problems and stress-inducing situations. But more to come on that when I actually have had some time to relax, breathe and see your lovely faces in the flesh now that I will have time to again.
I will go on record as saying that I had a wonderful time on the trip, though. The problems and stressful situations were minimal compared to the amount of fun and enjoyment that was had exploring my very own country as well as showing around a complete stranger to these lands. And when I think about it some more, I’ve only seen several parts of one coast. This land is amazing and worth exploring, folks. Get a mate to give you a dink if needed, but get out there and get amongst it.
The main reason why I didn’t get a chance to sit down and write about the trip as it was occurring was because every day was just about stacked to the hilt with activities and things to do. I think my ‘ON‘ switch that had been activated since balancing full-time study with damn-near full-time work this year wasn’t really in the mood to be switched off for this trip.
However, somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 words worth of notes have already been produced outlining and detailing the bare essentials of the trip, meaning that there’s plenty more to write about in the coming weeks.
Until then, blah blah blah <insert something about Christmas goodwill here> and the new year (observations about this year would be a good idea at this point), but I’mma do a Kardashian and split for now.
